DODITAL TREK
Dodital Trek is an engaging one passing through the Garhwal Himalayas in the state of Uttarakhand in India. This expedition to Dodital Lake and further to Darwa Top is one of the most picturesque treks in the Indian Himalayas that witness some of the most beautiful valleys, flora and fauna, and history.
It is so named in connection with the legendary Himalayan trout fish called “Dodi” which inhabits this river. This lake is surrounded by thick forests of oak, deodar, and rhododendron, which makes the place more attractive for nature lovers as well as bird watchers. Dodital Trek is moderately easy hence the trek attracts a broad spectrum of trekkers from the first timers to the experts.

Best Time to Visit (Dodital Trek)
Summer (April to June): The climate is fine, the sky is clear, and the flowers are blossoming. The weather is relatively good during the daytime, and it can be slightly cold during the night times.
Autumn (September to November): This is another perfect time in the sense that the sky is clear and the scenery is beautiful with autumn colors. The temperatures are relatively low especially when one is planning on going for trekking.
Monsoon (July to August): This area gets a lot of rain that makes the surface of most trails slippery and dangerous. This period is also not safe from landslides, which also occur frequently.
Winter (December to March): The trek is under snow and although the beauty is different, the harsh test on this trek is due to freezing temperatures and tough terrain.
Permits and Regulations
Permits: Talking about permits, at the present, there are no restricted permits needed for Dodital trek. Nonetheless, it is advisable to consult with the relevant authorities in Uttarkashi to learn of any new information or modifications to the laws.
Guidelines: It is also important to stick to the Seven Principles of Leave No Trace, which are all meant to reduce the impact on the surrounding environment. This includes not polluting the environment by littering, guiding our activities within the tracks that have been established, and having consideration for other animals.
Accommodation (Dodital Trek)
Camping: On most of the days, the group will be sleeping in tents in camping sites provided within or around these parks. To avoid hypothermia or an icy sleep, one should ensure that the sleeping bag is of good quality and the tent is designed for cold weather.
Guesthouses: There are few guesthouse establishments available in some remote areas such as Bebra village and in Agoda. These offer simple but decent accommodation, though it is good to have a change from a tent occasionally.
Physical Fitness
Preparation: Some level of physical fitness is required as the candidates are expected to carry out some rigorous activities. It is recommended to perform aerobics such as running, cycling, swimming and other types of physical activity on a daily basis. Strength training, both endurance and resistance focusing on leg and core muscles, will also aid in this.
Acclimatization: The trekking isn’t very high and hence, one needs to adjust to this so that they don’t experience altitude issues. Expedite some time at the starting point of the trek which is Sangam Chatti so as to acclimatize to the height.
Packing Essentials (Dodital Trek)
Clothing: Clothing that is put on in layers is crucial since it can be adjusted to meet the changing temperatures. Carry thermal wear, moisture-wicking base layers, a warm fleece jacket, a waterproof shell jacket, and trekking pants.
Footwear: I recommend using strong trekking boots with a good support on the ankles and a grip on the surface. Wear them before the trek to prevent blisters as a result of walking for the first time.
Gear: Some of the absolutely necessary items include a warm sleeping bag that is suitable for cold weather, trekking poles, a headlamp with spare batteries, and a proper sturdy backpack with a rain cover.
Other Essentials: A hydration system, water bottles, energy bars, a first aid kit with all the essential items, toiletries and personal identification documents.
Trekking Route
Starting Point: Trek starts from Sangam Chatti, which is located 14 km away from Uttarkashi. This is open for transport by road from Dehradun or Rishikesh.
